Lamy Al-Star Fountain Pen - Ocean Blue, Fine is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique yet aesthetic design. I love this pen. I've started collecting more fountain pens since I discovered this site and a Lamy Al-Star/Safari seems to be a requirement for any collection. I ordered it in ocean blue in fine and it had a very aesthetic look to it after first glance so I've grown very attached to it. The pen is lighter than I was expecting but aluminum is a light alloy after all. The finish is beautiful and it writes wonderfully in fine. The converter is built fairly efficiently at the connecting end so it holds a generous amount of ink. The design of the grip section had me a little skeptical at first but it has a nice feel to it. At first I thought the design went all the way around with a tri-pattern but the underside of it is actually rounded off. The nib stays on really well yet comes off easily and I intend to get the full set in steel. It's now my workhorse pen for journaling, notebooks and what have you. Best service as always from Goulet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful pen for the price I bought this for a friend who has been writing with a gaudy yellow safari for a long time. This is a bit more elegant and is true to the high standards of reliability and value I have experienced with my own safari.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Different but good!! Overall its a metal Safari so its a great pen, but it was different than I expected. It was MUCH lighter than I was expecting and it wasn't as dark a blue as most pictures make it seem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "I love it when a plan comes together." Well, if I'm going to take the plunge and use "that ink whose name must never be spoken", then I'm going to designate one pen in this price range to learn about it. Yep I picked the Blue Colored Pen. DUH!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-have for all enthusiasts The Lamy Al-Star has been billed by Brian, among others, as a fountain pen every beginner and/or enthusiast should have in their pen stable. I wholeheartedly agree. I picked one up in fine, Ocean Blue, and I love it. The grip is excellent, even for me as a lefty, the nib is smooth with a touch of feedback, and who doesn't love the ink window and translucent grip that lets you see a little of the inner workings of your pen? You can't go wrong with an Al-Star; if you're a beginner and you're wondering what pen to start with, this is an excellent (if slightly pricey) choice--you'll use this pen forever. If you're already an enthusiast and don't have one, pick one up. My only caveat is that the pen is very large when posted, but it's so well-balanced that you'll hardly notice. Check out Brian's excellent Pen Plaza under Resources on this site to compare sizes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! This pen was awesome until it was stolen from me (A good sign of a cool pen right?). I had some issues with skipping but nothing too bad, overall I loved this pen and it has made me fall in love with fountain pens. Now I think I'll upgrade to the Lamy 2000; hopefully that won't get stolen too!
