INK SAMPLE - J. Herbin Bleu Ocean (1670 Anniversary Ink) is rated 4.2927 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Blue Ocean - Very Good, not Great I'm still looking for the "perfect" ink. This isn't it, but I love Herbin inks, and this certainly is up to the Herbin standards. Pricey because it is a special (and possibly limited) offering and in a premium - and elegant - bottle. After some point, it's not just about "ink," it's about a pleasing and distinctive color - something that sets writing apart from all the others. This is different enough from the "typical" inks that it serves that purpose. It's also important that the color be sufficiently saturated to photocopy well, but still be lighter than a black ink would be. This meets that as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful flowing ink I don't really have much to compare this ink to, as I am just a novice in the fountain pen world, and so can only compare this to the standard Lamy blue ink or the Private Reserve DC Electric Blue. I ordered this ink to write thank you letters for interviews. It has an excellent flow to it that makes the pen never seem scratchy, and makes writing a joy, even compared to the Private Reserve. The ink color is a muted dark blue that borders almost on purple/indigo. My only issue with this ink was the colors (comparatively to Private Reserve) seemed almost too light and not pigmented enough and it lacked the "wow" factor I had expected to receive with ~$20 ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sparkly Blue! For a FP newbie, I love how the ink is pigmented and had that extra pizzazz because of the gold. The ink is smooth, writes/flows nicely, doesn't feather, and dries up pretty fast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Brooding rather than brilliant I agree with much in the previous reviewer's judgments. The ink has a rather different character than the swatch would lead you to expect. It is darker than the swatch, especially when dry, and it exhibits some purple in its shadows. It doesn't have the brilliance we may have expected, but it has rather more force and character. Powerful and brooding, it has a very attractive presence on the page. It Is also a nicely flowing ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blue of the Ocean This color reminds me of one of the many shades of blue that one might see well out voyaging the seas. A deep blue that can be seen further out from the ship. I find this rather fitting for the name and the idea behind it. It starts out nice and wet and dries rather fast. Well wet, it looks purple but dries down to a nice blue. On cheap lined paper it does feather a bit but I do not find it to be that bad. everything is still very legible. The previous reviews are also very good descriptions of this ink.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flow wasn't very good in my EF I was very excited to get this ink, as I've been wanting to try Herbin and I've heard this one was great. Turns out that comes with a caveat - it's not so great in thin nibs! I guess it has something to do with the pigmentation, but the flow was terrible. I flushed the pen and tried again, to no avail. The color was also much lighter than the samples show, but that has to be because of the nib and not the ink. My friend has the opposite experience: he loves this ink! He also uses nothing smaller than a M nib, so that is telling. The only pen I own that goes that wide is my signature pen... Three stars because even though it didn't work for me, it worked very well for my friend. I've ordered some new samples of Herbin ink to give it another try!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from J. Herbin Bleu Ocean 1670 Anniversary Ink An invoice with Alex's beautiful writing with this ink showed it in a beautiful dusty blue. But in my pen it is a darker blue. Like 2 completely different inks. I will try it in another pen and see what happens. But I have no complaints - I love the ink and the lovely bottle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like, not love, yet Ordered on release on Thursday, received on Saturday, via First Class Mail. Fast and fabulous! The ink: medium/dark purplish blue. It is not horribly over to the purple side, however. I found Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire way more purple and a lot less saturated, as an example. I've only had it in one pen so far, a Pelikan M200 with a M400 0.6mm stub nib. Bleu Ocean seemed to run a bit wetter than the Edelstein mixture I had in the pen before. However it dried fairly quickly on Rhodia without smearing. It seemed to offer a bit of water resistance. A water blob did not dissolve a handwritten sample completely. The color looks a bit flat, no sheen or shading, but quite rich. I like it! For me it is not close to any blues I have on hand so it is a keeper. I can see "like" turning to "love" over time, with use and experience.
