Rated 4 out of 5 by from Acquired Taste I have to admit, despite the great reviews I did not like this ink as first. The color is great if you only compare it too other permanent inks, it can not stand with some of the beautiful colors that are available. But then I tried this ink on cheap paper. This ink shines on the type of cheap notebook and copy paper that is everywhere. I even find that if I use it with a medium nib I also get some subtle shading without feathering or bleeding. So while I would not use this ink with nice paper (I have other inks I prefer for that) its a really great choice if you need a permanent, well behaved ink that is appropriate for legal or work related documents.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like It Just inked up with the new Massachusetts blue/black. It's very similar to Noodler's blue/black. Possible a little lighter, but hard to see much difference color wise. It writes well with no noticible feathering or bleed through on Rhodia and regular copier paper. A little on the wet side in Twsbi 540 F nib and Edison Premiere F nib. Dry time is a little longer than Noodler's blue black. Has a definite ink odor which I liked. Will probably be a regular in my rotation of blue-blacks, but I think I still prefer Noodler's regular blue-black.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly not what I was expecting My first time using this ink was in a work pen that writes to the likes of a fine/extra fine. It wasn't a good fit for me. I wanted to add a bit of variety to my work inks for forms and lists and was hoping that the amount of green in this ink would be less noticeable in a finer line. Not the case. It wasn't till I decided to use it in my cheap Jinhao 159 that I felt it was a great ink. It is defiantly on the greener side of blue and with a bit broader line, it is very refreshing! I love Noodler's inks and am happy that this was redeemed by bringing life to my 149 clone. The shades you will get with this ink in a broader line are very tranquil and make me think of Lake Tahoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential Ink!!! Love it!!! I started off with a sample; I really only got the sample because I read the story behind the color and was interested. As soon as I inked up and wrote the first word I was hooked. The color is a little lighter and had more green then the color swab (as far as my monitor could tell.) It has what I would call an oxidized copper look to it. It wrote very wet in a Lamy All-Star with an EF nib and was/is silky smooth. I now have a bottle headed my way. Also, it is totally waterproof, like ?put the paper in a bucket of water and nothing changes whatsoever? waterproof. You should buy some now!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Colour, But It Dried in My Pen This is a great colour -- and I say that as someone who generally avoids blues and blue-blacks because I tend to think they are boring. It was well-behaved on my Clariefontaine paper, but it lost one star because when I didn't use the pen it was in for two days it was near impossible to get the pen to write. Licking my finger and running it across the nib helped for about half a letter, but in the end I had to dampen a cloth and completely clean the nib before the ink would work again. I've heard you can dilute this ink to improve the drying issue, so I'm going to do that on my next refill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 54th Massachusetts a Long Awaited Favorite I really enjoy blue-black inks. They offer a unique alternative to the ?bic? blues we see every day. Noodlers Massachusetts 54th lends an almost a ?smoky? hint to the ink reminiscent of the battles in which the 54th fought. This ink?s color along with its historical significance honoring the first regiment of African American volunteers to be raised by a Northern stare during the Civil War make it a favorite among my inks. It flows very well in my Waterman Liaison (bold nib custom ground to a 0.7 mm stub) and is not prohibitively difficult to clean. Thank you Goulet for the recommendation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great one from Noodler's Inks!! The color is appropriate for the workplace. No feathering and no bleedthrough on Rhodia, Clairefontaine, standard copy paper and Sugarmade copy paper. It flows well but isn't too wet. It writes almost black, but up close is definitely a very dark neutral blue. My running water test shows that this ink DOES NOT BUDGE from paper when dry (about 60 seconds). I expect this ink will become a standard "must have" like Noodler's Black.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oooo, nice, really nice. . . This is the blue black I've been searching for. It flows deliciously dark from my Pilot VP medium cursive italic and I think the colour is subtle, classy and solid. The nearest ink I own to compare it to would be Diamine's Blue Black, although the 54th seems to have a tad less blue and dries out to leave a clean crisp almost neutral line. I plan to use it for sketching and outlining so it's inability to be washed away (at all!) makes it perfect for water washes. Wished I'd bought two bottles now : ( Thanks Nathan & Goulet Pen Co.
