De Atramentis Document Ink - Brown (35ml Bottled Ink) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! I have been using this ink in a Namiki Falcon for sketching and am absolutely loving it. It is a very useful and attractive warm brown - a burnt umber - that looks lovely on the page. It dries fast and is waterproof and lightfast. It also mixes well with other Document inks. I've been sketching with inks, pens and nibs and this is the best I have found in 35 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well on "cheap" paper I love brown ink and I love De Atramentis ink. I have used their Christmas Ink with Coffee scent ink which is a lovely brown and smells great. However, on poor quality paper (such as things I sign at work printed on cheap paper) it does tend to feather. I saw the De Atramentis Document Ink in Brown and thought I would try it. I use it in a Pilot Vanishing Point fine nib. So far it has been great and seems to perform very well on poor quality paper. I cannot say how it would do with a medium or broad nib but if you have feathering issues, the Document Ink may help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Dream Come True As someone who has fought with Noodler's bulletproof browns and lost, De Atramentis Document Brown is a dream come true. As a sketcher I need a truly waterproof brown and I get it with this ink. As an added bonus this is an ink that dries fast. Love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy to have a waterproof brown My main sketching ink for use with watercolors is black, but I also enjoy a brown line too. I've been hearing great things about the Document inks from De Atramentis so I thought I'd try the Document Brown, and I'm glad I did! This ink does indeed dry fast and holds fast against watercolor washes with no bleeding. The color is a medium warm brown to my eyes. I'm tempted to try Document Black as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True Sepia This ink is another of the De Atramentis Document Inks that is not done justice by its swab. In real life, on white paper, this ink is the precise color of actual sepia--not the reddish "sepia" tint of old monochrome prints, but the warm brown of cuttlefish ink. On good paper (Circa or Arc white), it flows from a 1.1 stub nib with authority, leaving a rich, wet, saturated line that dries quickly. There is just a hint of shading, and no perceptible feathering or bleed. This is the ink your leather-bound journal wants for its birthday. I do not hesitate to recommend this ink to anyone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Document Ink-Brown I am an artist and us this ink to sketch on watercolor paper. It flows well and does not bleed when wet. I would have preferred that the brown was a shade darker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent on cheep paper, scratchy on nice This ink is quite pretty. I put it in my Pilot metropolitan and my nice journal (a barns and noble one, the paper seems like think parchment) and found it actually quite scratchy. I was curious and found a cheep walmart notebook and it worked like a champ. So keep that in mind. Overall a great ink

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much nicer brown ink than expected I've been looking for the "right" brown ink for me. I've tried a number of different ones that have ranged from "meh" to "close but no cigar." This may not be my perfect brown, but it's the closest yet. There is more shading than I'd expected, given the sample swab and the fact that it's a document ink. It dries pretty fast but doesn't feel like a dry ink while writing -- even in my relatively dry-writing Conklin Duragraph -- and it's water-resistant. There's some warmth to this brown without a red undertone (which I actually like in a brown ink), and no discernible yellow tones, either. It's definitely a brown and not a tan or sepia. I'll likely buy a bottle of this De Atramentis Brown document ink. The only brown ink I liked better was a Caran d'Ache Organic Brown, which was at the bottom of an empty ink bottle I bought from Goulet. Loved the rich brown, but wow, the price! For me, not really worth it.
