Beautiful but heavy pen
This pen is beautiful. I have had it less than a week and it is already acquiring a patina, which is really cool. I have received an unusual amount of compliments from people when they see this pen. I can see myself writing short letters with this pen. Pros: It is beautiful, the extra-fine writes like a dream, and my finger position fits comfortably on the pen. I find myself staring at it for extended periods of time. Cons: I had to get accustomed to the screw cap, but it's growing on me. I will say that it is definitely on the heavy side, but I knew that going in. I think only The Hulk could realistically write with the cap posted. Lucky for me, I don't like writing with caps posted. However, it is still heavy, which is why I can't see myself using it all day. But for the occasional use, it will be great. Plus, it looks great with my dark leather desk pad. It took a while to get the ink running, but once it started running, it was perfect.

Conklin Nighthawk Copper, EF
I got #224 when the special was run with the free Monteverde ink. I picked Fireopal. It's an outstanding pairing! The patina formed in a couple of days and looks really great. It has mass and feels secure in my hand. The Goulet EF nib has a great, fine line, has just the right amount of flex for me and is smooth, not scratchy. I'm really liking this pen and it's my pick when I go to project meetings at development sites because I know it'll hold up to my copious note-taking and I won't worry as much about an accidental fall like I would with some of my other pens (don't take that to mean that I'm going to abuse it, 'cause I won't). The only negatives I would mention with this are ones that those familiar with Conklin already experience: it doesn't post as securely as I would like and finding the "home" position for the cap threads is sometimes hit-or-miss. Other than that, I'm finding that this is going to be one of my "constant carry" pens! And, I must confess, I'm enjoying this pen so much I'm eyeing up the Brass version!
