Made of a clear resin with chrome trim, this special edition Conklin All American is an oversized yet comfortable fountain pen. This fountain pen is offered with your choice of a reliable, smooth-writing silver German made JoWo #6 steel nib in extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, or 1.1mm stub, or the new JoWo Omniflex flexible steel nib for variation in line width. With six nib options, you are sure to find a selection to fit your handwriting style.

Our note about the JoWo Omniflex nib: This flex nib will allow you to experience more bounce and softness than writing with conventional nibs. You can achieve some line variation with a little additional downward pressure, to a point. We recommend flexing the nib to about twice the line width that you would see without using any pressure. Please take care to avoid pressing too hard on the nib, as over-flexing could prevent the tines from returning fully to their original position and decrease or stop your ink flow.

The Conklin All American is impressively large in size, yet not so big as to be uncomfortable in the hand. The screw cap and barrel are carefully tapered to provide a nice balance. The trademark Rocker Clip allows users to easily secure the pen to a shirt or coat pocket. The All American comes with a threaded, standard international converter and also uses short reliable standard international cartridges. You can also convert this pen to an eye dropper.

The Conklin Pen Company was established in 1898 and is still regarded as one of the most significant and innovative manufacturers from what is today known as the Golden Era of fountain pens.

During the 1930s, at the dawn of the depression, Conklin launched a collection that was priced more affordably to the general public. The "All American" collection was offered in a variety of sizes, filling mechanisms and finishes with the aim of satisfying a growing market demand for good quality, but affordably priced writing instruments. Today this pen pays homage to the classic designs of the vintage Conklin era.

The All American collection draws its inspiration from the rich heritage of the Conklin brand, which was purchased and revived by Yafa in 2009. The rebooted All American is manufactured in Asia, assembled and distributed from Canoga Park, California, and pays tribute to its roots with a "Toledo, Ohio" engraving on its nib and barrel. This collection brings a vibrant, contemporary style to a classic, oversize streamlined design.

Conklin All American

I have 12 fountain pens (Sailor, Waterman, TWISBI, Sheaffer, and others) and the Conklin All Amerikin is one of the top 3 favs. It is a perfect wet, the nib is silky smooth and effortless, big reservoir, and well balanced. The only issue is related to ink showing inside the grip and above the nib assembly. The "leak" does not cause "finger painting". Cleaning and soaking this sub assembly for 12 hours did not remove the dried ink. This issue is an appearance issue only.

Just as it should be

The pen has all the modern elegance as shown in the pictures. Filling it with the syringe that came with it is simple and mess-free. I chose the omniflex nib and it writes like a dream. (It's lays down a line a bit bolder than the fine TWSBI nib I'm used to.) This pen is everything I hoped it would be.

My new favorite pen

I bought the Conklin All American demonstrator in a broad nib on sale on a whim and I have not been disappointed! Since I inked it up I have been neglecting all of my other pens. It has a nice weight to it, and I like that it is a bit thicker than some of my other pens. The ink, when eye droppered in, looks so nice in the barrel.

Almost Perfect.

To start - I'm still a bit of a pen novice. I have 3 TWSBI Eco, a Monteverde Innova Formula M, a BENU Euphoria, and this Conklin is my newest addition.First impressions were fantastic. I love pens reminiscent of my grade school days using training pencils and this is definitely a decent sized pen. It feels great in hand. It's a super pretty pen no matter how you cut it. The ability to run multiple ink configs is great, and overall I'm not disappointed with it. That said - I'm guessing I got a bit of a bum tip - 1.1mm stub was scratching paper right and picking fibers up out of the box (tines aren't aligned) and the nib has a slight wiggle from side to side. I have already put ink in it and prepped my nib how I normally do so I'm thinking of trying a second nib in hopes of getting rid of the wiggle and also hoping it's not the pen itself. That said - I wouldn't let that stop me from grabbing another one, especially if you can catch the sale.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!

What's your return policy? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B
