The Perkeo is an entry-level full-sized pen from Kaweco. The faceted body, grip, and cap are made of a solid teal resin. The triangular grip helps keep your fingers in the proper grip position. It comes complete with a silver stainless steel nib.

It accepts standard international ink cartridges, or you can also purchase a standard international converter separately. An optional clip is also available separately.

Note: This pen comes with a standard international short cartridge inside the body and a cartridge spacer already installed.

Great for the Price

Personally, the three notches style of grip (whatever the official term is for it) is not terribly comfortable. I'm not holding that against the pen, though, as that is a 'me' issue. But dang, does the ink just want to make friends with the cap. Even with me attempting to perfectly align it closed, then open it again. I always get ink on my fingers because of ink being on the grip. Somehow. Every time. Even after cleaning (and it drying). Irritating. That said, it writes as expected. Smooth writing, feels durable, and definitely worth the cost. ... If I bought another sub-20 dollar pen, though, I'd buy another Preppy. I find it better in all aspects except for physical weight.

Smooth

Loving this pen. Used it and then forgot it in my bag for a week. No clogging, still writes beautifully. Nib is great.

Definitely a reliable every day 'carry' pen

The fine nib on this one is a bit too hard for me.... I loved the thickness of the body and like the weight of the pen too. Definitely my daily carry pen! :)

Great simple pen, get it in M if you're a novice

Don't be fooled by the marketing and the price - its not a toy! It's probably the easiest way to experience a premium (steel) F nib. What do I like- The F nib: "Iridium" tipped, true F, smooth off the bat, tolerant to pressure variation (fast, fast, fast) , on the wet side (use dry inks). After some TLC I'm sure it will get as smooth as any (hard) Japanese steel F can ever be. Next to it (with the same ink) 18K Pelikan Sovereign F nib glides way better but writes twice as thick. I'll gladly pay 20 bucks for the nib only.- Uber-simple, utilitarian German design. I wish the grip was a tad thicker (for my large hand) but size and balance are at the sweet spot. I use it posted (with a clip) to offset the feedback of the nib, and to avoid nib damage if I drop it. It's not a small, skinny pen - its a light, full-sized pen - It's simple, cheap, fast (for finger-writers like me) and fits standard convertersWhat I dislike:- No converter included. Really?!- Twist cap would be preferred. Not sure how fast this one will get loose (plastic-on-plastic)- Does not seem to be serviceable (I want to re-use the nib eventually)Last thing - in F it's definitely not a starter pen. Get it in M if you're a novice; I doubt you can find better value for the money as a starter (Pilot Kakuno might be an alternative, but Lamy (nibs) are no match). Weapon of choice for (almost) every occasion. Plug a converter, get dry bottled ink (like 4001) and start grinding the tip down.

Great starter pen

The nib wrote very well in my opinion, I got the Medium nib, and it had decent flow I would have preferred for it to be wetter. The grip section is similar to a Lamy Safari so if you don't like that style of grip, you won't like this pen. The thing I dislike the most about this pen is that when you unscrew the section from the body there is a large cutout which makes it nearly impossible to clean this pen with a bulb syringe and the pen does not come with a converter, so it is a little difficult to clean the pen.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
