Aurora Ipsilon Fountain Pen - Satin Black, Fine

An innovative line with a strong attitude. The Aurora Ipsilon, with its unmistakably shaped clip, is a loyal everyday companion dedicated to those who work and study. It is made of matte black resin with silver accents and a matching steel nib in fine. This fountain pen comes with an Aurora blue ink cartridge and an Aurora converter in a black gift box.

A light and well-balanced snap-cap pen, the Ipsilon is a great every day carry pen. With a toothier nib, this pen is ideal for those who like to feel their pen on the paper.

Brian's thoughts:
The Ipsilon writes differently than most other fountain pens you may have used. They're intentionally toothy, meaning that they have a pretty noticeable amount of feedback (resistance) as you write. This is especially the case with the extra-fine and fine nibs, which are actually quite narrow in line width and a little dry. There's a pretty noticeable jump in size between the fine and medium, so if you like wetter/smoother nibs, going with a medium or broad will be the way to go. The italic nib is actually more of a true italic, meaning that the edges are crisper than you typically see coming from any other pen company I've seen (typically, to get italics this crisp you have to get it custom ground). The italic can take some getting used to, so don't despair if you need to practice a bit, it's very sensitive to rotation in your hand. Get the hang of it though and you have a wet and crisp italic like I've seen from no other company!

Aurora Ipsilon Fountain Pen - Satin Black, Fine is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not be scared of a "toothy" nib I was slightly hesitant to purchase this pen because of what I heard around the nib. The rest of the pen (color, smooth satin feel, snap cap) all appealed but it is all about the nib right?! If you feel the same way, I would not be deterred as this is a great pen for somebody who can enjoy a nib that has some resistance. Reading a few blogs/forums, I think the comparison of writing with friction, such as a pencil, is a better way to describe the experience. While the nib is perfectly smooth, and does not make too much noise, there is a slight resistance. Perfectly smooth, but does not glide across the pen like glass. It really is a wonderful experience though. It is smooth, lays a nice fine line, and the balance/size is great. I like to post pens and this was a key factor in my purchase decision. You can write unposted but the pen is great posted. The converter has a good capactiy, and the cartride is huge. I would compare this to a Platinum 3776 nib. My 3776 is a little smoother, and wetter (I attribute that to the gold nib), but the feel is similar.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Pen - Scratchy Nib The pen itself is stunning - very well made, nicely balanced, and sized well enough to be comfortable and functional, yet small enough to be practical. The cap snaps in both covered and posted positions - which is very nice, as I find the cap needs to be posted for optimal writing. As other reviews have stated, the nib itself is scratchy (not uncommon with F and EF nibs). However, given that the feedback I have is slightly more pronounced in one direction, I fear that I may have a slightly misaligned nib. That said, I enjoy writing with this pen so much that I don't want to part with it to have the nib examined.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Ipsilon I purchased the Aurora Ipsilon from Goulet last month and it is quickly becoming my favorite. The mechanics, finish, feedback (just perfect), component engineering, fit and finish is outstanding.
