Aurora Ipsilon Fountain Pen - Bordeaux, 1.2mm Italic

An innovative line with a strong attitude. The Aurora Ipsilon, with its unmistakably shaped clip, is a loyal everyday companion dedicated to those who work and study. It is made of bordeaux red resin with gold-plated accents and a matching gold-plated steel nib in 1.2mm italic. This fountain pen comes with an Aurora blue ink cartridge and an Aurora converter in a black gift box.

A light and well-balanced snap-cap pen, the Ipsilon is a great every day carry pen. With a toothier nib, this pen is ideal for those who like to feel their pen on the paper.

Brian's thoughts:
The Ipsilon writes differently than most other fountain pens you may have used. They're intentionally toothy, meaning that they have a pretty noticeable amount of feedback (resistance) as you write. This is especially the case with the extra-fine and fine nibs, which are actually quite narrow in line width and a little dry. There's a pretty noticeable jump in size between the fine and medium, so if you like wetter/smoother nibs, going with a medium or broad will be the way to go. The italic nib is actually more of a true italic, meaning that the edges are crisper than you typically see coming from any other pen company I've seen (typically, to get italics this crisp you have to get it custom ground). The italic can take some getting used to, so don't despair if you need to practice a bit, it's very sensitive to rotation in your hand. Get the hang of it though and you have a wet and crisp italic like I've seen from no other company!

Aurora Ipsilon Fountain Pen - Bordeaux, 1.2mm Italic is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent When You Figure It Out I have had this pen about two months. It has two noteworthy features. (1) If you like to match the color of your pen to the color of your ink, this is the closest to blue-black that I've seen in any pen body. (2) It takes time and practice to use the italic nib well. I find that writing with an italic nib is a slower process than writing with a standard nib, and the process is even slower with this one. But the reward for time and practice is writing with much more character than is possible with most other stub nibs. Since I acquired this pen, I am somewhat disappointed with my other stub-nib pens. Of less importance, my somewhat large hands would prefer a larger pen with this nib, but the size is not uncomfortable. Also, I appreciate the firm click when either capping or posting the pen.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from As an entry level pen I expected better than this. This italic is a bit sharper than expected as it digs like a razor into just about any paper I've used. I've cut into several pages while trying to keep a 45 angle (sometimes heavily mind you) and it definitely doesn't like writing it if I veer away from 45 as explained in the overview. There are way way way better options out there for entry level. Also there was a u shaped metal piece inside the case.. anyone know what it is? Including a photo with a description of the pen to help identify in case I need this. piece for something.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable starter This was my Xmas present to myself. I attach a sample of its writing compared to a Lamy Joy 1.1mm stub. It seems a lot more than 0.1mm thicker than the Lamy but my measurements suggest the Lamy is too thin. You may note a lack of ink at the start of the Lamy test but not in the Aurora test hence my "reliable starter" title. Also impressive is the cap attachment. Much more positive than the Lamy. It is, of course, about three times the price of a Lamy Joy. It's good, but is it three times better?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fried Chicken crispy nib Just arrived in pristine condition. Not toothy for me on the included mini notebook. Bravo on the crispness of the nib. Little pricey but I do enjoy this pen.
