Aurora 88 Fountain Pen - Satin Black/Rose Gold, Medium is rated
Rated 5 out of 5
I've been anticipating buying this pen for some time, and I'm very happy that I finally did. The Aurora 88 is a timeless, classic design (no wonder it's in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC) and it really looks great in this matte black/rose gold iteration. What's more, the pen writes beautifully; smooth and effortless on Clairefontaine or Rhodia paper. I'm using Noodler's Liberty Elysium for a nice bright, saturated blue. The line that the medium nib lays down is on the broad end of the spectrum, which I like and which suits my writing style. Finally, I must commend the Goulet pen co. for their excellent service and pricing (the pen is definitely worth the price!). I recommend both the pen and Goulet without reservation.

Definitely one of my favorites
The smooth, but matte finish paired with rose gold is a great look; not as dated as black and yellow gold. This pen is in my top five, along with an Aurora Optima, Omas Ogiva, Visconti Homo Sapiens, and Lamy 2000. This pen is smooth and pleasantly wet: never a skip and always a consistent, crisp line. The piston is smooth and solid, with a very useful ink window. The weight, grip shape and slight texture, and nib performance make this pen a HUGE winner.

Arbernus 56 Rex
I had been contemplating buying the Aurora 88 for some time and noticed this model might be a good alternative to the MB LeGrand with rose gold trim that was its competition on my radar. I appreciate the play between the mat black and rose gold accents. The way the clip flows down the cap is very appealing. I had bought an Optima from Italy a while back and have been very happy with the way that has performed. The service from Goulet and the efficiency of the FED Ex delivery was outstanding as usualwith the pen arriving in 5 days to sunny South Australia. Unfortunately the nice looking medium 14 K gold nib when it arrived was the most annoyingly scratchy I have encountered in 35 years of writing with fountain pens and this was a significant disappointment but I was equipped to give it a gentle polish so that it soon came good. Nevertheless.....
