Aurora 88 Fountain Pen - Minerali Diopside, Fine (Limited Edition)

The Aurora 88 Minerali Diopside is the second fountain pen of a new limited edition, individually numbered collection. The pen is built on the classic 88 design that has been refined over the last 60+ years. A heavily engraved fine nib rounds out this gorgeous demonstrator with green accents. It has a piston filling mechanism with Aurora’s Hidden Reservoir system which gives you just a bit of extra ink so you don’t run dry mid-thought. If you notice you are starting to run out of ink, just twist the piston knob a couple times to release the additional ink into the reservoir.

Aurora only produced 388 of these 88 Minerali Diopside, making it a collector’s item and a piece of history. Each pen comes in a beautiful leatherette lined box with a small bottle of Aurora Black ink, a manual, and is covered by Aurora’s 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Aurora 88 Fountain Pen - Minerali Diopside, Fine (Limited Edition) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stunning Blue It's light weight. When you first pick this pen up, that will throw you. It's weirdly magical and ethereal. Kind of like picking up a Styrofoam boulder; your brain has to reprocess as you have that "whoa" moment. The fine nib is a bit wet so the line is between a fine and a medium, which is kind of the sweet spot I prefer. The nib is 18k gold and is buttery smooth, as it should be. The box it comes in is impressive. It's heavy; about eight inches wide, five inches deep, and four inches tall. I think this is important because if you spend this kind of money on a pen you need a safe place to keep it. I don't know why Goulet doesn't show the boxes these high-end pens come in. I think it's important if you plan to have the one, special "grail" pen. (Goulet, you really have some top-notch photography on your site. Maybe some unboxing photos can go in the mix.) My only complaint is that the inner, display box gets scuffed in transit and the included bottle of ink has leaked into the shrink wrap. Again, for this kind of investment you expect better. A fun surprise in the box was a small Pleather pad to set the pen on. That was an unexpected plus. This pen really is a work of art. The blue azurite is really something beautiful to look at. Apparently azurite is soft and can easily get dented, and tends to darken when exposed to heat and light. Only time will tell how this deep blue azurite will hold up. I plan to use this pen everyday and not treat it like a precious object. (If I can ever afford a high-end sports car, I'm totally driving it to the grocery store.) This pen is the best kind of art. Something you can actually use.
