A note from the founders, Linnea and Ward:

We started experimenting with making our own sealing wax in the early 1990s. We’ve tested it on our personal correspondence since then, and we started selling it to the public in 2003. We make the wax sticks ourselves in our atelier. We mix small batches and pour the wax into special molds from which individual sticks are removed and trimmed. Our wax comes in a rainbow of colors, and is sized for convenience of use.

We consulted with noted herbalist Jeanne Rose to find the right essential oils to scent our wax; which include cassia, nutmeg, clove bud, litsea cubeba, lavender, vetiver, and pine. Our wax sticks bear a calligraphic rendering (done by Ward) of our business name (Atelier Gargoyle), along with the medieval alchemical symbols for “wax” and “spirit or essence”.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soooo Good I've actually used this wax a lot and am very happy to see the Goulet Pen Co. carry it. I get great results with a butane torch lighter, counting my drips for consistency, and swirling the puddle with the wax stick out to the size of my seal which helps with bubbles and makes for a nice impression. The sticks release a nice smell of various essential oils when melting. I haven't heard of a single lost seal from my letter recipients, so this wax works very well. Plus, it's just fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waxing lyrical My first attempt at creating a seal was using this Atelier Gargoyle wax. Once on the page the was takes the seal very well and maintains flexibility when dry - preserving it (hopefully) as it goes through the postal service. One point about application though - my advice is to get a small metal spoon and a tealight. It's far easier to melt the required amount before tipping onto the envelope, and save burning your fingers by holding a lighter (I used a Bic) for too long. My thumb is still smarting! Oh, and it smells of cinnamon. The wax, not my thumb. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Wax The nice thing about the Atelier wax versus the J. Herbin wax is the amount provided. It works as it should, and the quantity is far greater. The Burgundy is a good color as well. The downfall of the Atelier is I noticed it requires a higher temperature vs the Herbin wax, meaning you have to heat it longer. Additionally with the Burgundy color the seal didn't pop as great as with Herbin. So overall, you get more wax for your dollar, but the tradeoff is it takes longer to seal and less of a pop. Just my brief experience. I would still buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sealing wax! I just got this wax and have used it twice already. It's easy to use and surprised those who received a sealed letter. I expect to enjoy it every time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Dark Burgundy Color I've been using J. Herbin sealing wax and I had to try this wax too. Burgundy has become my favorite color with J. Herbin. These sticks are quite a bit longer than the J. Herbin sticks, about the same width and a little thinner. I would like to know the weight comparison between J. Herbin and these wax sticks because I think AG sticks are less expensive per ounce. In use they perform just about identically to the J. Herbin wax and the color is a little darker than J. Herbin's burgundy (though I like both). When the AG wax dries, the edges that are not pressed by the seal have much more gloss than the J. Herbin wax. I love the aroma of this wax. All in all a great sealing wax, no problem using at all since I follow the technique Brian shows us in his helpful video. Atelier Gargoyle offers a very wide range of colors, I am so glad to see Goulet Pens carrying these. I will order more of these sealing waxes.
