Noodler's Konrad Flex Fountain Pen - Ahab's Pearl

The Konrad flex pen was introduced in early 2012 - it is smaller than the Ahab, but larger than the Nib Creaper. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a twist piston mechanism with a blind cap. The Konrad is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen. We recommend watching our video (below) to see how heat-setting the nib/feed can help improve flow issues.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Noodler's Konrad Flex Fountain Pen - Ahab's Pearl is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fun, addictive even. I'm in the UK and the pen was delivered quickly and exceptionally well packed at very reasonable cost. Though I'd read of some people having issues, my pen was fine out of the box - a bit of railroading, but that's easily solved with a few minutes of tinkering. Leaves a lovely line which makes regular (even stub) nibs seem pedestrian. This pen has definitely hooked me on flex nibs and though not the biggest piece of eye candy there is, produces by far the most exciting lines over any other pen I own. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT for a newbie I would recommend against getting this as your first pen. Start with a standard (non-flex) nib first; consider this for a second or third pen if your goal is straight writing. The nib and feed must be adjusted to find that "ideal" spot for your writing: dry, medium, wet and how much flex you want. I messed with it for two hours before I got it down. I chose to wear latex gloves while doing it so my skin didn't get stained. Otherwise, it's a great introduction into flex nibs. You can also buy one of the Goulet loose nibs in a variety of styles and drop it into the pen when you get bored. It's a plastic pen with a large clear tank and screw-type cap. Clip is thin yet snappy. The cap sits on the end of the pen, but it isn't a tight fit, so it may go flying every once and a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from not for the begginer This is a very cheap and interesting pen. But out of the box it?s rubbish, needs a lot of work to get it to work properly. But after I spent some ( a LOT of) time tinkering with it I fell in love with it, and carry it everywhere. Great introduction to flex fountain pens if you are willing to adjust and play with it. Made the "Ease my flex mod" on all of them and now they are pretty close to my vintage flex fountain pens. Highly recommended if you are willing to spend time tinkering with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pen Color Not As Shown The pen is great. I have others and love the flex nib and everything about it. This particular pen is more gray than white though, which is dissapointing.
