Noodler's Konrad Flex Fountain Pen - Red State (Special Edition)

The Konrad flex pen was introduced in early 2012 - it is smaller than the Ahab, but larger than the Nib Creaper. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a twist piston mechanism with a blind cap. The Konrad is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen. We recommend watching our video (below) to see how heat-setting the nib/feed can help improve flow issues.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My First Flex Pen I wanted a flex pen to be able to write some Spencerian-looking scripts. This pen wrote straight away, but when flexed, wasn't giving the line variation I had seen when others used their Konrad pens. After doing some more research on the pen, I realized that my expectation was a little unrealistic, and set out to fiddle with it. After resetting the nib and feed a little further into the section, and pulling the nib a little further out, I got more of the effect I was looking for. A couple of Notes: * Flex writing varies quite a bit when I use different inks (some bleed more than others and make your strokes uneven). * You don't just write with it and get cool letters. Some of you will laugh at me for thinking that, but it's an important point! Flex writing is more like painting with a brush. * This is a very fine nib (as in narrow) if you are not flexing it. * The nib and feed are designed to be adjusted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very nice pen and very kind service Actually the first I got from Gouletpens was slightly defective ones. So I was dissapointed. But when I contacted to customer service center, they responsed very kindly and quickly. I could feel they tried to treat my problem. They sent new replacement with no shipping cost charge. (To Korea) I was very touched and finally I got totally perfect new konrad pen and it worked great Im really appreciate to every staff of Gouletpens and I think I will love this pen lover site forever! Thx :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My first Noodler's Pen Loving the Red State colors, especially living here on the left coast. Original nib didn't survive getting to me, but had heard there have been contact issues with the cap. Ordered a replacement non flex nib and seated it for clearance, and its a joy to write with. It has since been joined by a an Ahab, and a Nib Creaper both in Cardinal Darkness, both flex nibs look good and ready to use. Thanks so much

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Piston This pen is great for tingling and playing with it. As soon as it arrived, I have fitted in the zebra G dip nib. Writes well. However, after 3 days of contant use(cca 5 refills each day), the screwing part of piston, that part which makes the filling possible, fell of. Now I have to use it as an eyedropper. Still it is good pen.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice but Nice pen, I am happy with it. But the photo suggests a red, white, clear pen body. In reality, it is a translucent pen body, which mutes or disguises the colors of the body (the interior is all those mechanical bits, plus my not at all clear ink.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressive every day pen Beautiful color. I keep it out just to look at it! And it is also a very smooth, satisfying pen to use as an every day writer. At the moment, I'm using Noodler's Black Swan in English Roses in it. Good match.
