Noodler's Konrad Flex Fountain Pen - Black Pearl

The Konrad flex pen was introduced in early 2012 - it is smaller than the Ahab, but larger than the Nib Creaper. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a twist piston mechanism with a blind cap. The Konrad is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen. We recommend watching our video (below) to see how heat-setting the nib/feed can help improve flow issues.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Noodler's Konrad Flex Fountain Pen - Black Pearl is rated 4.4444 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noodler's Konrad I was convinced that Creaper is almost the best pen I've ever had. I was quite disappointed with Ahab and Creaper was kind of small for me (not mentioning that smell!), but Konrad is "refunding" the ink flow failure of Ahab and also the small size of Creaper. And for that small price! Now, after several days of Konrad usage I can say that - except of Waterman vintage flex pens - it is the best pen I can use for everyday writing and also for kind of calligraphy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I expected Before buying the Konrad, the only pen worth mentioning that I've used is the Lamy pur. I've been taking notes in class with it for 2 or 3 years. Now, the Konrad wrote out of the box, no problem. But the lines were WAY too wet for my taste. Diamine Sherwood Green looked like pure black, even after drying. I've taken several hours over the last week trying to adjust the nib and the feed, and I think I've reached a setting that I like. Now, if I flex it to its full capacity it will railroad, but at least green is green and I still can add some variation to my writing style, which is just what I wanted. I'm still not confident enough to take it on the road since it's my first piston filler, so I can't add much more in that respect. Great pen overall, if you're willing to spend hours fiddling with it. And I mean hours upon hours, not just a couple. I was, and now I'm happy :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great service, great product! So this is my first order with Gouletpens and I must say I'm completely happy with the order. I wasn't home when my package arrived and let me tell you my postman actually chucked the package over my gate into my driveway. Luckily with the extreme packaging that you folks provide, everything was just fine inside. And thanks for the lollipop! I'll certainly purchase from you guys again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Noodler's Konrad Black Pearl I just received my pen and although I'm very happy with the pen itself I would like to point out that the pen isn't so much "black pearl" as "dark brown pearl". It looks much more like a graphite color in the pictures here, but the one I received looks more like a deep coffee brown color with the sparkles of pearlessence.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Neat pen for the money Gotta admit, I'm set to thinker with this. Fills and writes kind of well. Trying to get the hang of flexing the nib and writing. A bit wetter than I'd like, but this is totally a user problem and not a pen problem - for non-flexed writing, it's perfect. Great starter pen. This one got me hooked on fountain pens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Konrad After buying an Ahab and a Nib Creaper, I tried the Konrad. May I say, that I like the Ahab more? Actually I do a lot of sketching with my pens: So I decided to ink up the Konrad with some special ink for shading sketches. Works very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good pen to start It's my first fountain pen and it does not make me feel any difficulty to begin with.
