Noodler's Konrad Flex Fountain Pen - Tahitian Tortoise

The Konrad flex pen was introduced in early 2012 - it is smaller than the Ahab, but larger than the Nib Creaper. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a twist piston mechanism with a blind cap. The Konrad is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler's flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don't be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen. We recommend watching our video (below) to see how heat-setting the nib/feed can help improve flow issues.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Noodler's Konrad Flex Fountain Pen - Tahitian Tortoise is rated 4.3429 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful I bought this pen for use with the 1.1mm Goulet steel nib, but I now much prefer the original flex nib. I like nearly everything about this pen: its design, user serviceability, and, especially, the flex nib which allows such a range of expression. The filling piston was a bit sticky, better now with lube and use. Had to reset the nib and feed several times and washed the twice. Now the ink flow is perfect. Thank you Goulet Pen Co. and Nathan Tardiff for a wonderful pen at a bargain price. P.S. The filling mechanism is easier to unscrew from the body of the pen with a few wraps of a rubber band.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from beautiful tortoise This is a lovely pen, but I have to reiterate previous comments that the coloring is much more subdued than the photo. The gorgeous gold/green/blue coloring is still there, but it's a bit more subtle and less bright, which actually pleases me (I was worried that it would be too gaudy in person!). I did not have any problems writing with the pen out of the box, other than needing to learn how to use the ink sample vial with the longer nib. However, I did learn very quickly that you must be careful when screwing on the end cap - I did it too tight and when next tried to remove it, I pulled out the entire piston. So be careful with that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended! I ordered this product after watching videos in youtube. The pen came packed appropriately in 3 days that really worked for me since I paid for standard shipping. A very fine note was included in it written by Katy and Joe Olney . It was the first time I bought a product directly from a manufacturer and not through amazon. What made me decide to do it was their organized website with many more items higher in price than the one I picked. The pen writes smoothly and fine. It is easy to recharge ink. Because of the price and features of the same, I think It is a good buy and experience. Thank you guys, good job! Angelo

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Initial thoughts I just received my two Noodler's Konrad Flex pens, one in Tahitian Tortoise and the other in Fleur di Lis. Haven't had a chance to ink them up, but I am very impressed with the look, feel and quality of these pens for the cost. The colors are beautiful. The photos on the Tahitian Tortoise, which are great, do not do it justice. The fit and finish is fantastic. Next point, this is my first order with Goulet Pens, and I am very impressed with the service, not only with a smile but with a personal touch as well. As a former pen retailer myself, both brick and mortar as well as one of the first online, Goulet Pen Company i s first class all the way. Thanks. Jeff Bourque

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better than the regular Nib Creaper flex pen. First of all, I love the look of this pen: blue-green, with gold streaks, and also somewhat translucent, giving it demonstrator properties as well. The pen also writes very smoothly, and flow is a tad on the wet side, which is preferable to a pen writing too dry, IMO. Lastly, the cap covering the screw piston filling mechanism on the end of the pen is a much-needed improvement over Noodler's previous Nib Creeper flex pen; with the Nib Creeper, if you posted the pen you ran the risk of accidentally nudging the filling mechanism and discharging ink from the pen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a keeper My first flex nib, and so happy with this pen. The piston fill is a nice one, and has excellent capacity, which you do want for a pen with this sort of flow. I have mine loaded with Diamine Ancient Copper and that's a beaut ink for this pen, giving nice shading and depth. Works very nicely as a normal pen too, probably around a Western fine. Smooth and nice. Also enjoyed hearing the story behind the pen, and listening to Nathan Tardif explain his ethos (do a web search for interviews with him). The colour is fabulous too. Next stop might have to be an ebonite one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Displeased I'm not too happy with my purchase of this pen. it does not work out of the box. I eagerly took it out and inked it up right away (the first time I tried to ink it, all the ink immediately came out) Upon inspection and trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with my pen, I found that the feed looks misaligned with the nib and there appears to be a gap between the feed and nib. Plus i'm just now reading about all the other maintainence people are having to do with these just to get them to work. :c I may buy noodler's ink in the future, but I don't think i'm going to ever buy another Noodler's pen.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Completely different color than pictured. Still a wonderful color, but NOT the lovely green shown above. Mine is a turquoise. Cleaned with the pen flush sold on the site and it writes smoothly. I would consider this pen more springy than flexy, but I am sure it will become more flexible with time as all my Noodler's pens have become with use. I like the pen, I like how it writes, but the pictures are inaccurate. Lovely pen, just not what I expected.
