Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dries in 5 seconds A great change from writing with blue; when I saw this ink on a letter sent to me, I was struck by how it was uniquely personal, but also one an Executive would use to stamp his ownership on his correspondence. (This comes from on high, and this is as good as my seal) I just had to have it and of course if you want to use it often, why not keep it in a purple pen for easy finding. I bought the Edison Nouveau Premiere in Pearlized Purple - the perfect marriage with a 1.1 italic nib to show off the shading. Very smooth running ink, which dries so quickly you could turn a page without smudging. I will certainly look at other colours in this range.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Saturated Color! I really love the color purple. I have a Lamy Al-Star in purple, so of course I bought a purple ink to go into it. The De Atramentis Aubergine is very true to color on the swab, maybe even a bit darker. It's quite wet and feathers somewhat. There is moderate shading, but it's not as noticeable as perhaps some people would like because the color itself is so very saturated. While I love the color, I don't know if I would want to use it for large writing projects like long journal entries, essays, or story writing. It might just be too much of a good thing. However, it would be absolutely elegant for a thank you note to give it that personalized touch without losing any subtlety in the writing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A deep, rich royal purple De Atramentis Aubergine is a deep, rich royal purple, which flows easily and lays down a wet line. It's truly well-named, being just about the color of a ripe eggplant. I will say, there is some waterproof properties, depending on the absorbency of the paper, which I was surprised to discover. Because of the heavy saturation and darkness of hue, I didn't notice much shading, like others mentioned, but that may be the wetness of the nib I was using. Very pretty color, even though I personally prefer dustier or more muted shades. Goulet shipped immediately as usual, and as always, I'm a happy camper! Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from one of De Atramentis' best Aubergine is a strong, dark, opaque purple. I wouldn't consider it a purple to use if you're looking for something bright and happy. Instead, this can be a substitute for black, perfect for fine nibs. I keep this in a pen at work, and every Monday after sitting dormant for a weekend, it starts up just as dark as ever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice enough. Good water resistance. A bit lighter than I expected, but an attractive enough shade. Did well in my non-scientific water resistance test. Write on page, leave five minutes, put in sink and run the tap on it. Only ran and faded a small amount, stayed legible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful color I originally filled my TWSBI 580 EF with the Aubergine and it wrote in a very dark purple/black, however, when I filled my very old Mont Blanc 146 F it writes in a lovely eggplant/aubergine color. I think this will be my Mont Blanc ink. Haven't as yet tried it in my Lamy Al-Star with 1.1 nib. Anxious to see how that writes. Will let you know.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lovely color, feathers on non Clairefontaine paper I wrote a review previously when I used this ink on my Clairefontaine and Rhodia papers and loved the feel and color, however, now using it at work I find it feathers on regular paper. I was planning to use it to sign legal documents today, but will use another pen with ink that doesn't feather. It is a lovely color though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a colour and value! This ink is fantastic! I use it for my Lamy Safari, and it is such a nice, rich purple. You don't see it every day and it makes even normal writing an occasion. Also, when I could spend $4 on a pack of 5 Lamy cartridges (1-1.5mL per cartridge), I can spend $12 on a nice glass ink bottle that can refill my pen over thirty times! Definitely recommended as long as you have the means to fill an old cartridge.
