Good pen for what you get

Good pen for the price. but the nib just isn't responsive enough. Will buy more and might have them customised by a nibmeister.

Very great pen for the $$$$

Reviewer: Jose Longoria from Harlingen, TX United States
It took some fussing around to get it just right but I knew that getting into it. Overall its a decent pen for the money and a great way to get started with a flex pen. It was a bit scratchy which I took care of with some micro mesh, then it was just nib and feed placement.

I want to like the Ahab...
September 9, 2012
Reviewer: cypherz from Somewhere in the midwest
I am enamored with flex nibs,so I was excited by the possibility of getting a flex nib at this price. The reality is Noodler's QC isn't very good. I have 6 of these pens from Goulet's and another vendor. Of the 6, 3 worked great with a little tweaking, mostly just washing out the feed with detergent and water, and adjusting the feed and nib relationship. Two of the six required major surgery on the feed and the remaining pen has an unrepairable feed (cut crooked at the factory) and a nib missing most of the tipping. It is now spare parts. Two of the six are very good pens and are at least as good as my wife's Esterbrook with a NOS 9048 nib.

problem
September 4, 2012
Reviewer: PAGES Jean-Jacques from MIRECOURT, Lorraine France
Hello,
I would like to thank you for your feedback request and indeed I do have some thing to say. Then pen I have is fine but there is a slight problem with the ink flow. When I sign any documents the ink flow stops mid signature as the flow not quick enough and this is bothersome. I hope that there is a solution to this problem. I hope to hear from you soon.
Best regards
Jean-Jacques PAGES

Great service, great fun.

Fabulous service, five day delivery to the UK.
Lovely hand written note on the invoice.
I even Googled Alex Cap to see what type of pen it was (Doh!).
FPN put me right. Hi Alex!!
Noodler's Ahab is a great pen.
You may need to spend time adjusting it to suit, but you'll learn so much about fountain pens whilst "fiddling" and have a lot of fun with "inky fingers".
When people care about what they do it shines out.
Obviously you all care.
Many thanks,
Steve

Aheb Flex Nib Pens.

An ideal pen for writing shorthand (characters require thick and thin strokes). Better than good, being conservative)
Sorry for late reply, but could not speak more highly of your service and delivery of pens. Time from order to Sydney delivery, was shortest possible and packaging excellent. I found your companys web page through a Pitmans shorthand site. As a young Police Cadet 46years ago, I had to learn shorthand and typing,(pre recorders etc), after a 45 year career I have recently retired, and even though I have used part shorthand, I decided to learn it properly again, to challenge the brain, like a foreign language. These pens were suggested at this site and I could not commend them highly enough for shorthand writing, or for any writing etc for that matter.
I have a number of older fountain pens from my shorthand days and I have found your Web page to be one of the best I have used. (See next review space)

A Really Fun Pen

Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Sioux Falls, SD United States
Save yourself some frustration and make sure to google around for instructions on how to properly adjust the pen before use. Once adjusted this pen is a lot of fun and is the closest thing I've found to having the line quality of a dip pen with the benefits of a fountain pen's reservoir (that said, like dip pens, this thing can get pretty messy at times).

Noodler's Ahab Flex Nib Piston Fill Fountain Pen -
July 12, 2012

I had more expectations about this pen.
After I received it, I was disappointed. It is so light and feels and looks very cheap.
Writing is not smooth.

Exceeded my expectations and then some
July 5, 2012
Reviewer: Gregg Casillo from OH, OH United States
I had hesitated to pursue an Ahab based on some critical feedback others were sharing on FPN, but after a few months, it sounded like Noodler's had ironed out any QC problems with respect to the feed and nib. So, I decided to try one out. Why not? For $20, you may get a pretty stylish pen in a large, comfortable size, large nib with a wide range of capability, huge ink capacity, and complete user servicability.
Well, I'm glad I took the plunge. Flex pens aren't even within my ken; I just use this as a regular pen, and I LOVE it! The ebonite feed provides ample flow to the nib, and for a steel nib, it's remarkably smooth. Nice fine line too. Perfect for me! I've come back for another black and four clear demonstrator Ahabs, and they're all great with only a soapy water flush before the first fill (my normal routine with new pens).
Try it!

Good and not expensive

Noodler's inks are the best option I've found to date and Noodler's pens work very well with them. Other pens such as Lamy have some leaking problems - Noodler's inks may be used with them but some finger-stains may happen.
