Ahab flex
May 1, 2013
Reviewer: Dennis from Florida
Hi
I recently received a Ahab flex.
Very nice quality for the price.
I have gotten several pages writing in and the pen nib has gotten much smoother.
At first the nib was very scratchy and draggy.
The nib definitely needs break in.
As received the nib dried out quickly and would need a touch in a wet spot to start flowing again.
I adjusted the feed out closer to the tip.
The nib still drys and needs a slow first stroke to start flowing again.
Compared to my Diplomat the Ahab Flex is a much different pen requiring a different technique and more pressure on the nib.
My use of the pen requires me to slow down, but this slowness has improved my poor writing so this is not a gripe.

Noodler's Ahab Flex Fountain

Excellent pen. Writes like some of the most expensive pens I have. The nib lays down luscious lines and is smooth.
This was as awesome price.

The pen is larger than what I expected; it is very elemntar in its contraction, the nib is flexible.

Ink Supply
February 23, 2013
Reviewer: Chris Carter from Comox, BC Canada
I have used the pen for drawing and like the way it functions and makes marks. I do have an ongoing problem regulating the ink supply. The pen is prone to the nib drying up although the ink reservoir is filled. This problem is accentuated when using the nib for broader strokes. I have looked at the video on adjusting ink flow and the nib but an finding it difficult to obtain a satisfactory adjustment.

great for desk, not for on the go

I've been using some Noodler's pens for a while now. I've been using three Ahabs and two Konrads. All pens had good ink flow right out of the box. No big difference after washing the feeders with a mild detergent against cutting oils. I like the general feel, the nibs which are smooth and flexible of course. It seems to me, though, that they are more drawing and desk pens than daily pocket writers. When I carry any of them, except one of the Konrads, with me on the go, it is only a matter of time before they start leaking in the cap, or when writing a sudden gush of ink would appear under the nib ... I heat set feeds to be perfectly aligned under the nib, blocked the Konrad central breathing hole - like in the Noodler's tutorial on the subject - and nothing seems to help. I wonder about other user experiences?

Nice pen, nib to broad for me

I had a bit of trouble with this leaving too thick of an ink line. I adjusted the nib and still it was too wet and smeared easily. I do have a heavy hand so I know that is a lot of the problem.

Mine works good as a dip pen
October 29, 2012
Reviewer: Jeffrey Reinecke from Bothell, WA United States
Firstly, I did buy this pen knowing that you have to thoroughly clean it and tweak it before using. That being said, I'm having a heck of a time getting ink to flow out of the piston and into the nib correctly, with the nib sometimes drying up, and other times large air bubbles suddenly exchanging and large blobs of ink dropping onto my page. I suppose I could continue tweaking, but I've put in 3-4 hours so far and still am having no luck.
For now, I've been treating it more like a dip pen, and having a lot of fun with the flex nib as a result, but this is not something I plan on carrying around with me as I had hoped.

Very disappointing.

While this pen has a great filling mechanism and is made from high-quality materials, the writing experience is far from great. Even after many hours of adjusting feed and nib, it still skips and fails to provide the ease and fluidity of writing that is common in even the cheapest of fountain pens. The flex is nice but does not make up for the pen's shortcomings.

I like it

Like some of the other reviewers, adjustment took a little fuss, and inky fingers, but now the pen is working like a charm. With no pressure it writes a nice fine line with consistant flow. If i feel that I would like to add some style, just add some pressure. The piston fill is very nice and holds a lot of ink. Each part of the pen unscrews and is well designed. For the price of the pen you can not go wrong. I would have never tried the pen if not for The Goulet Pen Company with their honest reviews and great service.
