Extended Information:

Located in the Vosges region of France, Clairefontaine was established on the site of a 16th century paper mill. The Clairefontaine mill has been making paper since 1858 and stationery products since 1890. The River Meurthe supplies the water for Clairefontaine's Vosges mill. The water is so clean when it leaves their high performance biological treatment station that local people can fish, swim and boat downstream within sight of the manufacturing facility. The company is best known for being the first school stationery manufacturer in France.

All Clairefontaine notebook paper is 90g, acid-free, pH neutral for archival quality.

This is lovely, really smooth paper which knows how to handle fountain pen ink. The paper color is a crisp white.

If you do buy the blank/unruled tablet, know that it comes with one lined "guide" sheet that you can lay underneath the blank page as you write.

It would be neat one day to see Triomphe expand to other colors (or offer a tablet with a mix of colors).

If super-smooth stationery is not to your liking, check out the (more textured) G. Lalo stationery which also comes in more colors. Both are great, and I use one or the other depending on my mood (and to whom I'm writing).

The Clairefontaine Triomphe line is rightly famous among connoisseurs as the defining exemplar when it comes to brightness, smoothness and ink acceptance. Triomphe paper is bright, bright white and smooth as glass. Fountain pen ink will be slightly repelled and take an instant before it dries perfectly with exquisite shading and no feathering.

Everyone should try Triomphe at least once, if for no other reason than to have the experience as a reference for what good stationery should be like.
