The Konrad flex pen was introduced in early 2012 - it is smaller than the Ahab, but larger than the Nib Creaper. It features a steel flexible #6 nib and a twist piston mechanism with a blind cap. The Konrad is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a "renewable resource".

The Noodler’s flex pens were designed for the hands-on tinkerer - they are made to be taken apart and adjusted. The nib and feed pull right out and can be adjusted for optimal performance. Don’t be afraid to get a little ink on your fingers while you learn how to use this pen. For the Konrad in particular, we recommend watching Nathan's video (below) to see how heat-setting the nib/feed can help improve flow issues.

As a simple rule of thumb for writing with a flex pen, just apply slight pressure on your downstrokes, which will spread the tines and increase the line width, achieving that optimal line variation. Make sure to go slowly so that the ink can keep up with your writing. As with any flex pen, it just takes practice!

Due to the residual machining oils used when cutting the feeds for these pens, we highly encourage you to give the pen a good flush before use. We recommend any of the following options: distilled water, water with a touch of dish soap, a pre-packaged pen flush, or a solution of 10% clear ammonia to water. This should resolve most ink flow issues!

Good for the money April 20, 2013

I like that the feed is modifiable, but it seems I haven't figured out how to do it right quite yet.

Very enjoyable pen April 6, 2013

Not your average, run of the mill pen. A lot of fun to play with and perfectly suitable for an every day writer. Nice to see an affordable flex pen that isn't so expensive you're afraid to experiment with it.

good flex pen March 25, 2013
Reviewer: Charles from East Lyme, CT United States
Charles  my pen for about 2 weeks and have been enjoying it a lot. I ended up buying an inferior composition book for my journal and could only successfully use a Lamy Safari Extra Fine nib to write in it. After I bought the Konrad flex I tried that, works fine without bleed through with Parker bottled ink, have J. Her in also but haven't opened that one. Only issues I've had have been large droplets coming out of pen feed which I think might be operator error. Pen works fine for me without adjustment right out of the box, even after failure to flush pen before initial inking.

Best Value February 26, 2013
Reviewer: Dale Snow from Baltimore, MD United States
This is a really sturdy writer that holds up well hour after hour. I had a major project to finish and put the last of the ink I needed to complete it in the Konrad and it did not let me down. The ease of line variation is another big advantage for the kind of work I do. i will never be without at least one Konrad again.
