The Noodler's 'Gold Standard' May 5, 2013
Reviewer: G. J. JENSEN from IDAHO FALLS, ID United States
This is the 'Gold Standard' for Noodler's ink.

With the vintage dip pens [steel & gold nibs alike], there's virtually no feathering/bleeding on any paper grade [from recycled pulp to 100% cotton].
It's REALLY waterproof; after drying, no bleed even under running water!

Yes, there's some feathering on newsprint, but not to any unacceptable level.

Drying time is quite fast. However, I've noticed what I'd call an 'anomaly'  when storing the ink in an inkwell for dip-pen use.
With an inkwell that isn't air-tight, I've found that the drying time gradually increases over a 2-week to 6-week period; probably due to exposure to air [NOT from 'evaporation'].
After 4-6 weeks, the drying time increases to an extent such that it isn't completely dry even after 24 hours. Again, this seems to occur only when the inkwell isn't completely airtight.
So, I generally change the ink after about 2-3 weeks [when I start to notice longer drying times] to avoid that problem.
Curious behavior.

Real black ink - but too long dry time March 8, 2013
Reviewer: Franco from Switzerland
No feathering or bleeding regardless of paper, the right viscosity, high saturation and one of the few with real waterproofness. But, the dry time is "endless" on good papers (e.g. Rhodia 90g VeloutŽ: 2 to 3 min). As expected on cheaper papers better results (60g-70g: 30sek.), but still too long.
Waiting for Black 2.0 or a Noodler's Black with same behavior like 54th Massachusetts or Upper Ganges.

Blackest Black February 28, 2013
Reviewer: Perry from Mount Pleasant, SC United States
I tested three Noodler's inks: Black, Heart of Darkness and Dark Matter.  Black was clearly the "blackest" of the three followed by Heart of Darkness with Dark Matter having a noticeably grey undertone when viewed side by side.  They all appear black when viewed separately.

Black seemed to have the longest drying time followed by Dark Matter with Heart of Darkness drying almost immediately.

Black and Heart of Darkness seemed to have little feathering with Dark Matter displaying just a little more feathering.

Just FYI, this is a work pen and I use cheap paper.

The Standard February 25, 2013
Reviewer: Nathaniel from Orlando, FL United States
Attention black inks. Here lies thy measuring stick. Is Noodler's Black the blackest black? No. Is it the wettest? No. Is this the most well-rounded, bulletproof, black ink? To me, unquestionably so. My only complaint, very minor at that, is how it lightens up a bit in really fine nibs like a Sailor/Platinum fine.
