Monteverde Artista Crystal Fountain Pen March 4, 2013
Reviewer: Jonathan Gutierrez from Indianapolis, IN United States
Out of the box I had a huge problem with the nib of this pen. First, the nib slit is not cut correctly but that's not a big deal. Second, and this is the real issue, the nib was not smooth nor were the tines aligned. I had to fix both on my own which was a huge hassle and incredibly frustrating because I didn't have the proper tools to do it. At this point I've managed to get it to feel smooth and write well but I'm not sure if this was luck or I fixed it correctly. But, now that problem is out of the way I really like this pen. I found it a bit small at first but I came to like that. The plastic used is very clear and I love to see the inside. The pen also has a very cool looking converter that I enjoy. Plus you can take the converter apart, which is great! I love the transparent feed. You can actually watch the ink move through the feed to the nib if you fill the converter separately and then put it in the pen, it's pretty cool.

Beautiful feed indeed March 3, 2013
Reviewer: Denis Franca from S‹o Bernardo do Campo, Sao Paulo Brazil
The most super cool thing about the Artista Crystal is the clear feed. The pen itself is beautiful, well balanced, good size. The grip is a little bit slippery for me. I recommend.

Pen has pros and cons February 16, 2013
Reviewer: Keri from Jacksonville, FL United States
I'll start with the cons: for $15, you can get a Pilot Metropolitan that writes much better and more consistently than the Artista Crystal. My Artista Crystal has quite a lot of bad starts, especially with C's, and the shape makes it difficult sometimes to open the barrel so I can flood the feed.

Also, there is no ridge at the base of the section before the nib, so my fingers tend to slide down - and if I've just saturated the feed, they get a little bit inky. I don't find it a huge problem, but it might be for some.

In the pros side - it feels good in my hand and looks fabulous. I like how easy it is to completely disassemble for cleaning, and I appreciate that the cap screws on.

The nib is a bit softer than most of my other steel nibs, so there is some pleasant line variation (though not as extreme as a true flex).

I don't regret buying the pen, but I can't say it's my favorite for every day use.

Came with very scratchy (misaligned?) nib February 11, 2013
Reviewer: Zebulin DeOs from North Bend, OR United States
I was most excited about getting this pen (I got several entry-level pens at the same time) but have been most disappointed with it. Right off it wrote very scratchy (medium nib). Worse nib than pens that I got costing less than $5. After looking up nib alignment/smoothing stuff online I learned about the possibility of misaligned tines. I looked closely at the nib with a magnifying glass and the tines of my nib seemed to be out of alignment. I didn't have special tools but I was able to get it to write decently after working on the nib a bit with my finger nails. Still don't think it writes as good as my cheaper Lamy Safari or Platinum Plasir. I hope my Artista Crystal was just a dud because I want to love Monteverde (being a US company), but at this point I will probably avoid the brand for a while.
