Nice brown, if one could write with it |

A lovely color and a fine price point. It apparently hates my little Reform pen, however, which behaved delightfully with other inks (Pelikan, Noodler's). Where the nib flowed gracefully in my graceless hand across the page with the others, this ink scratches, claws, and stops flowing altogether, requiring six shake-outs to complete a single journal page. It behaved that way on crummy paper, 35# parchment, 90g Clairfontaine, and the 90g unknown of my main journal. The paper even had a "clawed" consistency after writing.
It did, however, dry quickly, with little or no feathering.

This is the perfect shade of chocolate brown and the ink is well behaved on a range of papers, including lower quality absorbent papers (no feathering nor bleedthrough). But I have had less than desirable results in a Sheaffer 100 F, Noodler's Flex-nib Resin Piston Fill and Kaweco Classic EF. With these pens, the ink would simply stop flowing, and twice it occurred during meetings - ack! I have only been able to get consistent performance with my Lamy Safari EF. The beautiful color and no feathering make this a keeper for me, but I cannot trust to take it to a meeting again. LOL.

I've just put this ink into one of my three pens that finally ran out of black ink, and I LOVE it! I have been using the Cafe des Iles to write in my journal, which has cream-coloured pages. Gorgeous!

Beautiful color, nice flow -- absolutely a wonderful ink!! Of course, I love all the J. Herbin inks I own (about 6 or so). I have this ink in a Levenger TrueWriter Kyoto and it's a beautiful combo. Wonderful customer service from Goulet Pens also.

Dries quite fast and is extremely feather resistant. It also dries with a flat look (no sheen). It does write with a slightly chalky feel but I actually like that. Don't leave it in a pen for weeks without using it as it is more likely than many inks to clog a feed (this can of course be cleaned quite easily). I wish it came in a 100ml plastic bottle like some of the other popular colours.
