Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ink I decided to try out this ink based on previous reviews. I had been using Noodler's Blacks (the Bulletproof and Polar); they are nice, but would smear with a wet finger. The Carbon Black, on the other hand, doesn't smear at all - stays put! Even better: I was using Noodler's La Reine Mauve in my Monteverde Invincia (Fine) but it was dry - this ink is smooth as silk, no skipping. Best feature: the same La Reine Mauve in my Extra Fine Vanishing point was too dry - the pen was too scratchy to be usable. I inked it up with Carbon Black, and it is now again smooth as silk - nice extra-fine line, no scratchiness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed Loaded this into a Rotring Art Pen with the Sketch F nib. It works beautifully so far, I make sure to use it daily to avoid drying. The ink flows readily, no skipping for drawing or writing. No feathering on any paper I've tried so far, this includes generic copy paper for a printer. It dries quickly, which is why you need to use it often (every 1-2 days) but is desirable for something such as field sketching, as you'll be able to use watercolor soon after placing the lines. On paper, it dries to matte black, only taking on a bit of a sheen if you place a significant amount of ink in one area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Ink to use with Watercolor Washes I was unhappy with the waterproof-ness of the Noodler's inks in a Stillman & Birn sketchbook: the inks (except the Lexington Gray) smeared and bled when I wanted to cover them in light watercolor washes, even after the ink dried. Several artists recommended this ink to me and it works perfectly in the Lamy Safari. I was cautioned to make sure not to let this ink dry in the pen, but I've been using it up so quickly that I haven't needed to clean the pen or worry about drying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly waterproof, and deep black I've been on a quest to find a black ink that dries relatively quickly on sized watercolor papers and that won't run if watercolor washes are brushed over the outlines. I have some Tachikawa manga pens with this sort of ink, but it only comes in proprietary cartridges that don't fit my other pens. I tried three different Noodlers formulations (color too light, did not dry well on watercolor paper, and bled when wet) and a few technical pen inks for rapidographs. (They behaved beautifully on the paper, but dried too quickly and clogged the pens.) I finally sprung the money for this carbon black, and I am delighted with it. It has the identical properties as my manga pen ink, and it flows beautifully in all my sketch pens -- even the dry ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slightly better than Noodler's black but more $ This ink is slightly better than Noodler's black as it does not 'shade' at all after writing when wetting your finger and going over your letter while Noodler's does shade a little. It is also slightly better when using watercolors after drawing wit this ink. Again, Noodler's is great but this one does not shade at all. I find Noodler's to be darker and prefer it beacause of that, but if I had to draw something requiring watercolors after it, I would use this Carbon ink. Also, it is more expensive than Noodler's (and that is a big factor if using a lot of ink) as you get 60ml for $19 while you get 90ml of Noodler's for about $12, so it actually comes to beong two times more expensive (give or take), which ends up in me using mostly Noodler's ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ink for artists This is the best ink for artists and the ONLY ink I use for my illustrations. It s the only really waterproof ink for fountain pens--others give off a grey tint with a light wash. It is a high maintenance ink though--so clean your fountain pens once a week and NEVER leave it in an unused pen for more then a day or two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lovely black, bleed proof ink This ink is excellent for calligraphy work, combining ink and wash for art. I like the fact that it does not bleed when a wash is applied over it. It also dries fairly quickly, although I would wait at least half an hour before erasing pencil marks, for calligraphy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black This ink is black. Really, truly black. It is a fantastic ink, best in a fairly wet writing pen, perfect for when you need a permanent ink. I would say that this, being a pigment ink, does require that you take a little bit more care over your pen than a standard dye based ink - but that is no big deal. Flush your pen through every filling or two and be sure not to leave your pen with this ink in it and not use it for a day or so. If you do take that little bit more care this ink is perfect!
